This is a retainer for mounting large diameter springs such as SSBB dampers low. By thinning the thickness of the part sandwiched between the damper end and the piston rod. the spring can be set at a lower position on the damper. which makes the spring move smoothly and maximizes the damper stroke. It also makes the machine move more agilely and improves the vehicles response when turning corners.
